Archery is an activity involving skill, accuracy and self discipline.

It focuses your mind and your body on the small actions of drawing and aiming your bow and arrow, and releasing the string at exactly the right moment, to cause the arrow to gracefully fly through the air and (hopefully) land right in the center of the target. 

The origins of archery are generally unknown, however the bow and arrow has been used as a weapon in every continent except Australia, where the spear and spear thrower may have been a more effective weapon against the local wildlife.

There are several different types of archery including 3D archery, field archery, clout archery and crossbow archery, although most archery providers use target archery which can be both an indoor and outdoor activity.

There are two different types of bow that are commonly used nowadays, the Recurve Bow and the Compound Bow. The Recurve Box is the more common of the two nowadays, and is commonly used to teach beginners archery. The name of the bow comes from its side profile, the central section of the bow curves towards the archer, and the tips of the bow curve away from the archer.
