Open Canadian canoeing

A brilliant way to explore the hidden bays and rocky inlets that surround Raasay and Skye.

On an Open Canadian canoeing course, you’ll learn how to paddle solo or as part of a team, using Novacraft prospector canoes which are easy to handle, great to learn on or improve your skills. The shallow inland loch just five minutes from the house is a perfect place to learn the paddle strokes needed to tackle the sea.

With a bit of experience you’ll be ready for your very own Canadian Canoe Adventure, exploring the coastline and neighbouring islands and getting up close to the bird and sealife. We can even arrange an overnight beach camp and BBQ to round off your Raasay experience. You might even want to go for a BCU accreditation

Gorge walking – or canyoning as it is sometimes known – is a hugely satisfying activity. Walking, jumping, swimming and scrambling, you will discover fantastic canyons and incredible gorges in parts of Raasay that are inaccessible to most visitors. You might even end up on the beach where the Queen used to picnic.

Wearing wetsuits, buoyancy aids and crash hats you could be making your way up a narrow gorge carved out of the land, climbing up a raging torrent, jumping into deep pools or abseiling down a waterfall. And all of it amongst spectacular scenery and wildlife. Great fun, a real challenge and impossible to stay dry!

The island of Raasay has a unique diversity of landscapes and almost unequalled unspoilt beauty - the perfect destination for mountain biking enthusiasts of all levels. Being an island it has the advantage of very limited traffic while its shape (14 miles long and 4 miles wide) makes it especially appealing whatever your ability and level of fitness. Adult and kids bikes provided.

Within a short ride of Raasay House there are winding roads, single tracks and forest paths. Or perhaps you’d prefer sandy beaches, challenging rocky shore paths and heather covered hills. It’s all here waiting for you.

And once you’re out of the saddle, there are hot showers, deep sofas and fine whisky to help you unwind from the day’s adventures
