Description of Key Adventures Team Building and Outdoor Activities

Key Adventures designs bespoke outdoor team building events and outdoor activity events, indoor & outdoor teambuilding exercises, outdoor team challenge events, adventure journeys and expeditions. We cater for groups of 5-500 participants.

We design outdoor activity events including one or more of the following outdoor activities:

Abseiling, Rock Climbing, kayaking, canoeing, ghyll scrambling, mountain biking, Via Ferrata, Orienteering, mountain days, hillwalking, ridge scrambling, search and rescue exercise, caving and potholing, archery, Raft Building, pontoon building, bivouacing, night navigation and night journeys, guided mountain days, mountain navigation, map reading, Via Ferrata, expeditions and camping in the Lake District.

Abseiling

Abseiling is one of the more popular outdoor activities in the Lake District, an exceptionally rewarding and exciting challenge available for everyone, almost regardless of age and physical capability.

Abseiling can be a one-off activity or part of an adventure journey or mountain day, or as one of two or three activities in an adventure activity day. Complementary activities in the Lake District include rock climbing, ghyll scrambling, raft building, team building games, orienteering, perhaps a navigation challenge.

For a teambuilding event, abseiling is the means to the end; the team takes on a wider challenge with abseiling as the means of progress or delivery.

Prices start from £40 per person, and even better value if taken as part of an adventure day, mountain day or team building event.

What's included; our professionally qualified instructor, all technical and safety equipment, waterproofs and boots, digital photos, chaperon from pre-arranged meeting place to the site and back.

Abseiling is also a powerful way to dispel a fear of heights, not losing the value of fear, merely putting it into rational context. We run an event called "Feel the Fear..." during which we enable those with an undesireable fear of heights to gain greater control.

Raft Building

With so much water in the Lake District, raft building is one of our most frequent activities; fantastic fun and an excellent problem-solving challenge followed by a finalé raft race and the inevitable mayhem.

Teams of 4-6 raft builders design and construct their craft using lashings, spars and barrels, test and modify it, then race each other through a manoeuvrability and time trial.

This activity lasts 1-3 hours at dozens of locations throughout the Lake District. It's suitable for allcomers and the challenge can be increased if required by extending the paddle-distance or increasing the size of the craft.

Prices start from £40 per person and from £75 when included in a multi-activity day including one or two complementary activities (abseiling, ghyll scrambling, navigation, orienteering, rock climbing, canoeing) or team building event.

Via Ferrata

A fantastic brand new activity in the Lake District, via ferrata offers 2-4 hours of alternative mountain action, similar to the via ferrata routes in the Dolomites on a more usable scale.

Via ferrata involves clipping yourself into a safety wire and traversing along the side of Fleetwith Pike high above the Honister Pass.

There are two sections, the first via ferrata being an exciting introduction to the activity, the second involving considerably more adventure and challenge, passing over a high zip wire to gain access to the challenging higher sections, eventually ascending through a steep tunnel towards the summit.

As far as we know there is only one via ferrata route in the UK, and it forms a fantastic part of a mountain day easily paired with navigation and hillwalking, rock climbing, abseiling or gorge scrambling.

Prices for a mountain day or multi-activity event start from £75 per person including one or two complementary activities and from £120 for a private guided mountain day.

Orienteering

We offer a wide variety of orienteering events in the Lake District, including short one-hour events, more complex adventure quests involving team building challenges at each control point, corporate strategy events and canoe or mountain bike orienteering.

Orienteering involves navigation to locate a series of waypoints, where participants find markers, a team challenge or a clue as in a treasure hunt.

In a team building event we might ask teams to set targets or predict the time taken for a stage. For a corporate team strategy event we ask the entire team to set themselves a target to achieve across several fixed time periods in which to collect and return, with penalties for non-completion, thereby reducing competition and increasing collaboration within the team.

Prices start from £35 per person.

Our adventure challenge events feature orienteering as the means to progress from one activity to the next, whereby teams can compete against each other in timed stages, with further competitive challenges interspersed along their route.

One of our more popular outdoor team building events involves orienteering between various teambuilding exercises, abseiling, ghyll scrambling and a finalé raft building challenge.

Rock Climbing

The Lake District offers some of the finest rock climbing in Europe with literally hundreds of crags to choose from. We offer introductory climbing sessions for novice climbers, guided single pitch and multi-pitch rock climbing for private clients and peer belaying challenges on outdoor team building events.

Rock climbing can be a more phyical activity than others, though the many crags in Cumbria allow us to choose climbs that suit each of our client groups. Rock climbing pairs well with abseiling and ghyll scrambling for an adventure activity day, though a watersports activity such as canoeing or raft building works well too.

To ensure full engagement in the activity, we usually get participants to belay each other, which develops trust and collaboration between climber and partner, and encourages effective support and communication.

Prices start from £40 per person for a half day, from £75 for a multi-activity adventure day including one or two complementary activities (abseiling, ghyll scrambling, navigation, orienteering, raft building, canoeing) or team building activity, and from £120 for a private guided mountain day.

Key Adventures offers a range of country pursuits in the Lake District. Each activity lasts from an hour up to a full day though best value for money is gained from several activity experiences in the same event.

Multi-Activity Events

Key Adventures offers multi-activity events so that you can mix and match your activities depending on your preferences, the time available, your location, etc. You can choose a multi-activity event lasting from a single day to eight days, for 5 to 120 people.

We use our expertise and connections to ensure that, where necessary, travel time between activities is reduced to a minimum, that you get best value for money and the highest quality service possible.
