Join Peak Instruction at Millersdale's famous 'Bridge 75', a disused railway viaduct on the Monsal Trail near Buxton in Derbyshire.
This is a fantastic location for people exploring the Peak District and can be reached easily by car, bus, bike or on foot.
This is an ideal activity for families and individuals out for the day and up for a bit of a challenge. We have abseiled people as young as 8 and as old as 80, typically kids find it easier than their parents!
In life we are exposed to risk daily but sometimes we forget this and things become mundane and we loose our fear. An example of this is crossing a busy road, statistically very dangerous but most people don't feel the danger. This is a case of perceiving risk as low but it actually being high. Abseiling is the other end of the spectrum. Most people's brains perceive abseiling to be highly risky but this is not the case, it is increadably safe.
You'll be safeguarded by 2 rope systems, one of which you'll have control over and the other in the hands of the qualified instructor. Each rope system could support a small car, so no need to go easy on the breakfast!
We have 2 sessions throughout the day, each one running for 2.5 hours. Over that time frame we'll walk to the bridge from the meeting point, kit up and brief you and the rest of time will be spent abseiling. We'll get you down the bridge as many times as time allows, typically a large group would get 2 abseils each with the number of times increasing as the numbers drop.
The bridge has a number of abseil points along its length with differing options for height/exposure. We will start off rigged over the dry land but if time and group ability allow we can move points and even abseil down over the River Wye.
As your confidence increases you can try getting down faster, blindfolded, as a pair or do the bridge jump!
We finish our session back at the car park (unless you are on foot or bike) where you can head off to enjoy the rest of your day.
