Activities at Peak Instruction

Abseiling

Close

Join Peak Instruction at Millersdale's famous 'Bridge 75', a disused railway viaduct on the Monsal Trail near Buxton in Derbyshire.

This is a fantastic location for people exploring the Peak District and can be reached easily by car, bus, bike or on foot.

This is an ideal activity for families and individuals out for the day and up for a bit of a challenge. We have abseiled people as young as 8 and as old as 80, typically kids find it easier than their parents!

In life we are exposed to risk daily but sometimes we forget this and things become mundane and we loose our fear. An example of this is crossing a busy road, statistically very dangerous but most people don't feel the danger. This is a case of perceiving risk as low but it actually being high. Abseiling is the other end of the spectrum. Most people's brains perceive abseiling to be highly risky but this is not the case, it is increadably safe.

You'll be safeguarded by 2 rope systems, one of which you'll have control over and the other in the hands of the qualified instructor. Each rope system could support a small car, so no need to go easy on the breakfast!

We have 2 sessions throughout the day, each one running for 2.5 hours. Over that time frame we'll walk to the bridge from the meeting point, kit up and brief you and the rest of time will be spent abseiling. We'll get you down the bridge as many times as time allows, typically a large group would get 2 abseils each with the number of times increasing as the numbers drop.

The bridge has a number of abseil points along its length with differing options for height/exposure. We will start off rigged over the dry land but if time and group ability allow we can move points and even abseil down over the River Wye.

As your confidence increases you can try getting down faster, blindfolded, as a pair or do the bridge jump!

We finish our session back at the car park (unless you are on foot or bike) where you can head off to enjoy the rest of your day.

Itinerary

2 abseiling sessions throughout the day.

Session 1: 10:00am until 12:30pm

Session 2: 1:30pm unti 4:00pm

Each 2.5 hour session starts and ends at the old station building car park in Millersdale. Arrive by car, bus on foot or by bike.

Experience

No experience required or even a head for heights. We have many years experience in helping people overcome the urge to keep their feet on the ground and have many ways to help you if you are having butterflys. Solo or tandem, we can help you overcome your fears. At the end fo the day, the choice is yours whether to abseil or not, we will do our best to aid you but only you can do it.

Pickup / Dropoff

Meet for session 1 at 10:00am in the National Park car park at the old station in Millersdale.

Meet for session 2 at 1:30pm in the National Park car park at the old station in Millersdale

Essential Information

All participants will be required to fill in a booking form with medical declaration.

Good footwear is essential, you should be able to lace (or velcro) shoes or boots up tightly. Footwear must cover your foot fully. Sorry no 'Crocs' or sandles.

No unaccompanied under 18's.

Dogs are welcome on the bridge so long as they are well behaved and someone is available to supervise them whilst you are abseiling. The instructor cannot do this as he/she will be busy with the ropework.

Sorry but we cannot refund you in the case of you changing your mind on the day.

Due to licencing regulations on the bridge, we may have to wait for an abseil post to become free if there are a lot of other users there. We very rarely have to wait long.

All under 18's must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Each session requires a minimum of 2 participants to run.

Your activity day typically starts at your first activity location or one of the Peak District's many convenient cafes/meeting points. We meet at 9:30am (unless you want a lay in!) and finish around 4:30pm leaving you free to enjoy your own evening plans. Everything else that happens during the day is up to you, all the activities have a minimum time and you can piece together the day of your choice.
