Description of Learn The outdoors

Learn The Outdoors is based in Thirsk, on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.
From this location we are able to meet at various venues across North Yorkshire, to provide you with an amazing outdoor experience.
Whether its a single activity or a multi day expedition around some of our amazing waterways. We will be able to taylor make a package to suit you.
So feel free to take a look around the site and see what you could be doing on your day out.

We deliver outdoor experiences to a variety of groups including-

Abseiling

After a short walk from the carpark we will choose with a number of abseils to tackle.
Your instructor will help you get kitted up and attach you to all the saftey equipment, then you will be sliding down the rope checking out the amazing views on the way down.

Caving

Learn the basics and have a go at Caving. After a day out with Learn The Outdoors you'll be hooked. Normally based in and around the caves of the Yorkshire Dales, we will give you a through introduction to British caving, including all the tight squeezes, waterfall climbs and winding passages. With us you wont just experience the outdoors, you will Learn the Outdoors.

Kayaking

We have the option of learning all the basics on some sheltered water and progressing towards one of the British Canoe Unions Awards,or if you have done a bit before and fancy a challenge we can go tackle some white water rapids.

What to bring along?
A spare set of clothes, towel and trainers
A waterproof coat and trousers
Cold weather- hat, gloves and a hot drink
Lunch if your going to be with us for a full day
Any personal medication

Rock Climbing

Learn the basics and have a go at Climbing. After a day out with Learn The Outdoors you'll be counting the days to your next climbing session, where we can take you to more challenging venues, or teach you how to safely rig up your own climbs. Canoeing

We will venture out on to the water after getting kitted out with all the saftey equipment which is provided for you.
Whilst out on the water you will learn how to steer, controll and manouver your canoe either single handed, as a tandem crew or multiple canoes rafted togethor to get the whole group togethor.
If you are up for a challenge there are plenty of chances to join in with some tasks which will test your balance and team work.

Gorge Walking

Whats Involved?
You will be kitted out in a wetsuit, bouyancy aid and helmet.
Then set off to explore the gorge, and i am sure we will find plenty of jumps, plunge pools, rock slides and some small waterfalls.

What to bring along?
Waterproof coat and trousers

Raft Building

Whats Involved?
Your stranded on an island your challenge is to construct a raft using barrels, logs and ropes to escape. The raft will have to be strong enough to hold your group as you paddle it back to safety.

Lunch if your going to be with us for a full day
