Description of Keswick Adventure Centre
Keswick Adventure Centre (A founder member of the Lakes Adventure Partnership) has been established in order to provide excellent, affordable outdoor adventure activities for all visitors to our stunning Lake District National Park. We operate in and around the beautiful Borrowdale and Newlands valleys and utilise the fantastic Via Ferrata at Honister Slate Mine.
We pride ourselves in our extremely high levels of customer service, ensuring that you have the most professional and highly motivated staff that Keswick has to offer - after all there are plenty of providers in the area and we want you to have the BEST!
From a single activity for you and your family through to a full weeks outdoor package for your school, Keswick Adventure Centre will ensure that you have just what you want. We can tailor our activities to suit all, and if you are staying at the Derwentwater YHA (Barrow House) we will bring them to you!
Most of our activities are suitable for all ages from 7 to 70, with the exception of Mountain Biking and the Via Ferrata that are obviously governed by height/leg length.
Corporate Activities are a big part of our portfolio and are run in conjunction with Keswick Country House Hotel. We can bring our team building / fun problem solving activities to you or your school or workplace. Why not ask for more details.
You are more than welcome to call, e-mail or drop in and discuss all of your requirements - we would love to help. The activities that we offer include Rock Climbing (Indoor and Out), Abseiling, Canoeing, Raft Building, Mountain Biking, Walking, Via Ferrata, Waterwalkerz, Zip Lines and we also have our own Mobile Climbing Wall that we can bring to you for that special occasion with a difference!
We will also provide other activities outside of this list, just ask for details.

Abseiling
CloseKeswick Adventure Centre hosts some incredible abseils throughout the Borrowdale Valley. Our most spectacular is almost 100 feet above the ground at Woden's Face near to the Bowderstone.
Why not combine this activity with Outdoor Climbing and develop your skills in the morning in order to climb the 'face' and then prepare to be thrilled during your commando style decent?
A camera (securely fastened to you!) is a must if you are to convince your disbelieving friends who thought that you would not climb higher than your lounge window sill!
Why not let us arrange a charity abseil and raise money for your great cause at the same time as abseiling from your choice of cliff, building, crane or tower. Keswick Adventure Centre will come along and assess the possibility of abseiling from your chosen venue and give you a very competetive price if it is a 'go-er'.

CloseGhyll scrambling has many names, Gill scrambling, Gorge Scrambling , gully bashing, stream walking, stream scrambling and river walking.
Ghyll scrambling is one of the most popular outdoor adventure that Keswick Adventure Centre offer and one that people come back for time after time.
It can be as wet or as dry as you like as you follow one of many streams, beck’s and gorges. The only way to describe this activity is to say that it's like caving with the roof off. In the ghyll there are many waterfall climbs, rock traverses, rocky obstacles and jumps into plunge pools. You won't believe how much fun ghyll scrambling is until you've tried it!
Here at Keswick Adventure Centre we expertly guide you either 'up' Honister Ghyll or 'down' Stoneycroft ghylls - why not spend a whole day getting wet and do both ghylls? This is for the crazy only!
We will provide you with a fleece 'teddy' suit and waterproof overtrousers and jacket and a helmet in the cost of this activity, however you will need to bring a towel and a FULL change of clothing!!!! Wetsuits are available for a small extra charge.
Ask anyone who has done this activity about the infamous ‘Washing Machine’ in Stoneycroft Ghyll and book a date for the thrill of your life.

CloseImprovised raft building is a fantastic team building/bonding excersise. Teams as small as 4 begin by designing, building and paddling their own craft around our course on Derwentwater. All they have is the list of equipment that we provide and some basic instruction on tying knots!
This activity sees many different designs being utilised from the HMS Ark Royal through to the Titanic, but one thing is certain - a fun packed session for all (particularly the Instructors!!).
Our rafts are either built in the traditional way using poles and barrels or even the design and build of corracles using pipes and canvas - something a little different.
For this session the participants need to be prepared to get quite wet, so a towel and a change of clothes is advised....

CloseOriginally from the Dolomites in Italy, Via Ferrata literally means "Iron Way".
It is an amazing journey across the imposing Honister Crag using fixed iron footholds and handholds. You will cross zipwires and climb sheer cliff faces safe in the knowledge you are securely joined to the mountain by a strong safety cable! A truly unforgettable experience.
This is a half day activity and if done as part of a Multi Activity Day will leave only one other activity in that day.

CloseThis is one of Keswick's most popular activities.
After putting on your buoyancy aid and playing some little warm-up games on the shores of Derwentwater, you will be shown how to hold your paddle in the correct manner, sit in your canoe (the right way round!) and steer your craft in the direction that you wish to go.
From a gentle introduction to canoeing to learning more advanced skills you will embark upon a very special lake session. With the hills and mountains raising up from the edges of the water you will be amazed by the beautiful scenery as you travel on the lake and perhaps have a picnic on St. Herbert's Island. You may even be too focussed on winning the team games that your instructor has shown you to notice the views!
A session in our fleet of new Old Town Discovery's will leave you with memories that will last a lifetime.
For younger participants - or those of a nervous disposition - we can raft the canoes together in twos making them too stable to topple over.
With Keswick Adventure Centre you can enjoy 1-7 day river expeditions. We will lead you for a days paddling along beautiful rivers in the Borrowdale Valley, take you on a 3-5 day trip to Aviemore to paddle the River Spey (see Latest Pictures) and even let you join us paddling the Ardeche river in France. These trips can incorporate hotel, hostel or wild camping options - it all depends upon your budget (or whether your partner will sleep under canvas without electricity!!).
Why not call us to devise your short break for you....?

CloseYou may be an experienced MTB rider or complete novice, either way we can give you a session to remember.
We are located immediately next to part of the Coast to Coast cycle route in Keswick and as such a little push and you are on one of the most scenic routes in the whole of England. Our simple route will take you along the side of the River Greta, following the disused railway with a mere 60 feet of height gain in nearly 3 miles, a delight for the younger rider or those not as fit as they would like!
We can easily add some uphill and speedy downhill sections for the more adrenaline thirsty client, and even introduce you to the new trails in Winlatter Forest (For the Advanced MTB'er only).
New this year we are replacing our fleet or Saracen Mantra 3's for the rugged Specialised Hardrock - a more capable and reliable name in the MTB circles.

CloseRock Climbing and abseiling are very natural activities. The popularity of rock climbing has been growing for the last few years and indoor climbing walls are springing up close to most people. Rock climbing's profile is huge, and is being further enhanced with increased TV coverage. As the sport has rapidly evolved it has brought new techniques and skills to the rock climber, making it safer and more accessible. Taster days are designed for people with little or no experience, who just want to have go and learn basic skills and techniques.
Once kitted up with your harness and helmet you will be ready to climb, under the supervision of a qualified and experienced instructor. Often the first few moves are made low down, centimeters from the floor. You will learn the technique of bouldering, and traversing - moving side-wards along the rock, looking carefully at hand and foot placements. As your confidence increases, with the continual encouragement of your instructor, it will not be long before you find yourself reaching the top of the climbs, scaling heights you never thought possible!
Feeling on "Top of the World", the afternoon will bring more experiences and challenges. You will have the chance to abseil down the rock face - nice and slow at first...but with more and more practice, you will soon be getting down in two or three big bounds!
Our venues are located within the Borrowdale Valley , just a short distance from our centre, and provide a challenging session for all – from complete beginners to the ‘expert’ climber.
